Abi Daré: And So I Roar
Fourteen-year-old Adunni is in Lagos, excited to finally enrol in school. But on the night before she is due to start, she is suddenly summoned back to her home village of Ikati. There she must try both to save herself from her own past, and transform Ikati into a place where girls are allowed to claim the bright futures they deserve, and roar their stories to the world.
“And So I Roar”, the second novel by British-Nigerian writer Abi Daré, this year won the inaugural Climate Fiction Prize. Chair of judges Madeleine Bunting described it as “A book of real energy and passion…a story of how the climate crisis can provoke social crisis where often women and children are the victims… Abi Daré holds faith in the strength of individuals and relationships and her hopefulness leaves us inspired.”
We welcome Abi for an in-conversation event about her prize-winning story of resilience and hope.
