Capriol Spring Concert

Capriol Chamber Orchestra are celebrating the arrival of Spring with a cracking concert in Holy Trinity Church, Stroud on Saturday 7th February at 7.30pm.

We’ll be kicking off with the evocative Wasps Overture by Vaughan Williams followed the very lovely Clarinet Concerto by Mozart.

We’re thrilled that Chris Gibbons is returning as our soloist. A clarinettist, conductor and educator based in Cardiff, Chris grew up in Gloucestershire, where he learnt to play the clarinet under the tutelage of Wes Duggan. Chris has worked with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Orchestra of the Welsh National Opera, Mahler Chamber Orchestra and London Sinfonietta, among others.

The concert will end with one of Prokofiev’s best-loved works, his “Classical” Symphony. Prokofiev decided to subvert expectations by composing his first symphony along Mozartian lines. It’s concise and playful, updating traditional classical forms with modern harmonies, rhythms and orchestral colors.
