Charity Shop World
Tansy E Hoskins
Do you enjoy a good rummage in Stroud’s charity shops? Many of us love a bargain outfit or vintage find but rarely stop to consider the wider implications of shopping – and donating – this way.
Author and journalist Tansy E Hoskins investigates the global fashion industry. She also volunteers at a charity shop. Charity Shop World is her brilliant and galvanising investigation into what happens to donated items, especially those not sold.
From used underwear to wolf pelts and the irresponsibility of high-street fashion brands, it’s a sometimes amusing, frequently shocking account of the consequences of consumerism and needing to rid ourselves of an avalanche of ‘stuff’.
We’re delighted to welcome Tansy for a lively discussion about how we might continue to enjoy the thrill of the bargain hunt while shopping and donating more responsibly.
