Musical Icons Exhibition

By Fred Barker

Do you have albums that you really love? And favourite musicians that have provided the sound-track to much of your life?

This exhibition explores the music and lives of ten icons who first emerged in the 60s and 70s. It does this through portraiture, song lyrics and commentary. Each set of acrylic portraits conveys a sense of the musician at different stages in their career.

Few musical icons have been heroic across their whole lives. Some have, but others have fallen from grace, or have disturbing periods. Some died young. Some sank to the depths. Some re-emerged.

The main part of the exhibition will promote reflection on the circumstances that contribute to the creation of truly great music.

A second group of portraits and lyrics simply convey a message of ‘thank you for the music’.

A soundtrack will feature songs from all the musicians’ much-loved albums.

Local artist Fred Barker has painted the portraits and chosen the words.
