Tredegar Band

Formed in 1876 Tredegar Band has become internationally respected as an elite level musical organisation and competitive performer, claiming a brace of British Open titles and being crowned Welsh Champion on fifteen occasions.

A self-supporting organisation, they are renowned for their commitment to musical excellence – from Proms appearances at the Royal Albert Hall and the Brucknerhaus in Linz (where they came third at the 2026 European Championships) to the UEFA Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium.

They provided music for the BAFTA Award winning film ‘Pride’, as well as for composer Gavin Higgins’ critically acclaimed ‘Dark Arteries’ production with the Rambert Ballet at Sadler’s Wells.

Recent major concert performances have been undertaken with internationally renowned brass artists such as Matthias Hofs, James Fountain, Ben Goldscheider and David Childs.

Their award-winning CD releases, ‘Dark Arteries’, ‘War Memorials’, ‘Vaughan Williams on Brass’ and most recently ‘Holst at 150’ have been complemented by a series of high-profile project initiatives - including artistic links to the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and to the Royal College of Music in London.

The performance of Gavin Higgins’ ‘Concerto Grosso for Brass Band and Orchestra’ alongside the National Orchestra of Wales subsequently went on to win a 2023 Royal Philharmonic Award and a 2023 South Bank Sky Arts Classical Music Award.

The partnership will be revived in 2027 with a release together under the baton of acclaimed conductor Ryan Bancroft.
